CloudEx Inc. ("we", "us", or "our") operates the "Screenshot" app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Our Core Principle
Screenshot is an app that takes screenshots of your device's screen. A screenshot is captured only when you explicitly trigger it, and the captured image is processed entirely on your device and saved to your device's storage. We never receive, view, store, or transmit your screenshots. Specifically, we do not collect any of the following:
- The screenshots you capture or any images you save
- The contents shown on your screen
- Your browsing history or the contents of your communications
2. About Screen Capture (MediaProjection)
Screenshot uses Android's screen-capture API (MediaProjection) to take screenshots. Before the first capture, Android itself shows a system confirmation asking your permission to capture the screen.
- The screen is captured only at the moment you press the capture button, tile, shortcut, or shake gesture.
- The captured image is handled on your device only — to crop it, save it as a file, and show a preview.
- The image is never sent to us. It leaves your device only if you turn on cloud backup to your own account (see Section 4) or share it yourself.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous crash reports: Via Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes, we collect the stack trace, device model, OS version, and app version. This does not include personally identifiable information or the contents of your screenshots.
- App usage statistics: Via Google Analytics for Firebase. We collect anonymous app usage events (such as the app being opened for the first time) together with device information and the device's advertising ID (AAID). We use this data to understand aggregate app usage and to measure the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (counting app installs that resulted from an ad). It is never used to display ads in the app.
- Purchase / license information: We use purchase tokens issued by Google Play to verify your purchase. We never receive any payment information such as credit card numbers.
3.1a Free-Trial Abuse Prevention (free version only)
The free version of Screenshot offers a 2-day free trial, after which a one-time in-app purchase unlocks the app. To prevent the trial from being reset by uninstalling and reinstalling the app, the app sends a one-way hash (SHA-256 with an app-specific salt) of the device's Android ID (SSAID) to our server, which remembers only the date your trial first started.
- The raw Android ID never leaves your device — only the irreversible hash is sent.
- The hash cannot be used to identify you personally and is not linked to any other data.
- It is used exclusively to prevent abuse of the free trial (fraud prevention).
3.2 Information Stored Only on Your Device
- App settings: Your capture settings (format, quality, bar-cut, animation), the save location, the floating button position, watermark settings, and the like are stored only on your device.
- Your screenshots: Captured images are saved to your chosen folder (under Pictures or DCIM) and registered with the system media gallery on your device.
- Cloud sign-in tokens: If you connect Dropbox or Google Drive, the access tokens for your account are stored only on your device so uploads can continue. They are erased when you disconnect the service, or when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
3.3 Information We Explicitly Do Not Collect
- The screenshots you capture or the contents displayed on your screen
- A history of the websites you visit or the contents of your communications
- Location information such as GPS coordinates
- Phone number, contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera
3.4 Permissions the App Requests and Their Purposes
Screenshot requests several OS permissions and uses them only for the stated purposes:
- Screen capture (MediaProjection / foreground service) — The core function: capturing the screen at the moment you request a screenshot. See Section 2.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — Used to show the movable floating capture button and the on-screen capture controls and preview.
- Notifications (Android 13+) — Used to show the persistent foreground-service notification and the notification-based capture controls.
- Photos and media (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / storage) — Used to save your screenshots and to show a thumbnail and the in-app gallery of images you have taken. The app accesses only the images needed for these features.
- Accounts and Internet — Requested only if you enable cloud backup. Used solely to sign in to your own Dropbox or Google Drive account and upload your screenshots there. See Section 4.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — Used only to restore the capture button after a reboot if you had it enabled.
- Create shortcut — Used only when you choose to place a capture shortcut on your home screen.
- Motion sensor (shake to capture) — If you enable shake-to-capture, the accelerometer is read on your device only to detect a shake. This data is never collected, stored, or transmitted.
4. Cloud Backup (Optional)
Screenshot offers an optional feature to upload a copy of each new screenshot to a cloud storage service. This is off by default and works only after you connect an account.
- Uploads go directly to your own account on the service you choose (Dropbox or Google Drive). We do not receive, view, or store your screenshots or your account credentials.
- Authentication uses the service's standard secure sign-in (OAuth). The resulting token is stored only on your device.
- You can disable cloud backup or disconnect the account at any time in the app's settings. You may also limit uploads to Wi-Fi only.
- On-device text recognition (OCR), if you use it, also runs entirely on your device; the image and recognized text are not sent to us.
5. How We Use Information
The limited information we collect is used only for the following purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the Service
- Verifying purchases
- Understanding aggregate app usage and improving the app (analytics)
- Measuring the effectiveness of our own advertising campaigns (install conversion measurement)
- Diagnosing and fixing crashes
- Responding to support inquiries
- Complying with applicable laws
6. Third-Party Services
Screenshot uses the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC) — anonymous crash diagnostic data
- Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC) — anonymous app usage statistics and measurement of our own ad campaigns (install conversions)
- Google Play Billing — payments are completed on the store platform side
- Dropbox (Dropbox, Inc.) — used only if you enable cloud backup to Dropbox; your screenshots are uploaded to your own Dropbox account
- Google Drive (Google LLC) — used only if you enable cloud backup to Google Drive; your screenshots are uploaded to your own Google Drive account
- Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosting of the trial-registry server that stores the hashed identifier described in Section 3.1a
Screenshot does not display ads within the app and does not share your data with advertising networks in order to show you ads.
7. Data Retention
- Crash reports: retained for 90 days, then deleted.
- Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted.
- Support emails: retained for 12 months after the last reply, then deleted (except where legally required).
- Hashed trial identifier: retained for as long as necessary to prevent abuse of the free trial; deleted upon request via the contact address below.
- Your screenshots, settings, and cloud sign-in tokens stored on your device: erased when you uninstall the app or clear the app's data (and, for cloud uploads, managed by you in your own cloud account).
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in Japan. The infrastructure used for crash diagnostics and analytics may be located in various countries. When you use the Service, the minimal information described above may be processed outside your country of residence under standard contractual safeguards.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you reside (e.g., the EEA, UK, California, Japan), you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited information we hold. You can:
- Reset or delete your device's advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads)
- Disconnect a cloud service or uninstall the app / clear the app's data to erase what is stored on your device
- Contact us at the address below to make a request regarding the information we hold
10. Children's Privacy
Screenshot is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age applicable in your region). If we inadvertently collect information from such a child, we will delete it promptly upon being contacted.
11. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The latest version is always published at this URL together with its effective date. We will also notify you within the app of significant changes as appropriate.
